The website of underwater photographer Rainer Mohr

At just over a year old, I had my first encounter with the underwater world. In the Sultanate of Oman, where I lived with my parents, I was already snorkelling with them in the sea, discovering the colourful world of fish and seeing my first baby sharks.

In the many tropical countries we moved to afterwards, the sea was never far away and always my favourite playground. It is all the more surprising that it wasn't until after university that I got my diving certificate on the east coast of Australia. Since then, my passion for the underwater world has never let go of me.

As soon as I was reasonably confident as a diver, I bought my first camera with an underwater housing. Over the years, as my expectations grew, this was repeatedly replaced by better equipment. Today I photograph underwater with a mirrorless system camera, various lenses, a high-quality underwater housing and several underwater strobes.

Whether macro or wide-angle photography, I am enthusiastic about every discipline underwater. I photograph without commercial pressure, goals or requirements — purely for myself, and I am probably the most delighted by the images brought up after a dive.

Over 50 diving trips have produced many thousands of images; my personal selection can be seen in the galleries. A photo book with over 250 pages was published in 2018 and revised in 2023.
